I Was Blind But Now I See

He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

 John 9:25

The man was born blind, but after his encounter with Jesus he could see. You will similar before-and-after testimonies in your life: once in bondage, now free; once in sickness, now healed; once in darkness, now in light; once a sinner, now a saint washed by His blood. God’s spirit will shine through you.

Your spiritual eyes will be opened when the Holy Spirit gives light. You will have a clear vision of eternity and heaven, your perspective will change. The devil wants to blind you but the light of God’s word will fill you. Many have lost their spiritual vision because they did not value it. They feel empty inside. However, God’s spirit will open your eyes again.

In 2 Kings 6, Elijah’s servant was afraid because they were surrounded by the enemy. But Elijah, the man of prayer and worship, was able to see God’s protection.
Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6.17
The one who doesn’t pray can see only warfare, obstacles and problems. But the one who prays sees the way God wants him to see. The Holy Spirit will show you God’s hand working in your circumstances.

If you have vision, you can move forward to the next level. God’s presence will go with you, and nothing can defeat you.

In 2 Kings 2, Elijah travels to four places before he is caught up by a whirlwind to heaven. Elisha leaves everything behind to accompany him, because he had gained the vision that God’s calling is greater than everything else.

1. And it came to pass, when the Lord was about to take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 2 Kings 2.1
The first place was Gilgal. The word means repentance, a place where your reproach is rolled away. It denotes your change of heart. Elijah asks Elisha to stay here, but he goes forward with him.

2. Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they went down to Bethel. 2 Kings 2.2
After repentance comes the journey forward to Bethel, the house of God. Nothing can substitute worship and fellowship in God’s house. Put down your spiritual roots there and regard Bethel with reverence. God’s Word exhorts you to go into the house of God and worship.

3. Then Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they came to Jericho. 2 Kings 2.4
Elijah gives Elisha the option of staying in Bethel, at that level of revelation. But Elisha sticks close to Elijah as he moves onward to Jericho. This place signifies praise and worship. If you worship and praise God when you face insurmountable walls, God is faithful to bring down your walls.

The early church was totally committed to four things: prayer, breaking of bread, the Word and fellowship (Acts 2.42). Personal prayer builds up your spiritual maturity; breaking of bread is the remembrance and thanksgiving for all the victories and deliverances that God has given; in fellowship is Christian character formed and revealed, enabling God to use you fully.

4.  Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to the Jordan.”But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” 2 Kings 2.6

Elijah moved forward from Jericho to Jordan, accompanied by Elisha. Jordan is a place where you die to yourself. The apostle Paul declares that he dies to self every day. This is crucial because works of the flesh and fruits of the Holy Spirit cannot co-exist.

Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.  And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. 2 Kings 2.11-13

Elisha ripped his own cloak and took Elijah’s mantle. He was hungry and desperate for double anointing. Those who hunger for God cannot be deceived by the devil. When you hunger and thirst for righteousness the Lord himself will fill you and His blessing will come upon you. You are not here by chance: you have a calling. Ask God for a new anointing and pray that your heart be illumined.
