Spreading The Light
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
A few reflections from this passage of scripture:
Jairus fell at the feet of Jesus. There is deliverance at the feet of Jesus; whoever fell at his feet was blessed. When your worship and prayers are directed at Jesus, there is a blessing.
The name ‘Jairus’ means ‘one who spreads light’. The Holy Spirit is raising up a generation that spreads the light of God. They will spread God’s peace and healing and not jealousy or gossip.
What are you spreading amongst others? Belief or disbelief? The Truth or a lie? Are you establishing someone in Christ or shaking their faith? Choose to be a spreader of light.
If something has caused you to lose your light, rebuke it in Jesus’ name and commit yourself to the Lord. He will set you apart and make you shine brighter than before.
Jairus knelt before Jesus because his daughter was dying. He wanted Jesus to place hands on her and heal her. Jesus heeded his prayer and walked with him. On the way, though, they were interrupted: the woman with issue of blood clung to Jesus and caused a delay.
Jairus was in a dilemma. On one side was a generation that is dying; on the other, a generation that is bleeding and in pain. Jairus was in the midst of this. Similarly, God will place his church between these generations. God will bring about deliverances through those willing to pray for the dying and hurting generations.
Jairus was willing to sacrifice. His own child was on the verge of death, but he was willing to sacrifice his time and wait until Jesus healed the hurting crowds. If you have this sacrificial mindset, God will work a miracle beyond your expectations.
God cannot use self-obsessed people. Those who are willing to sacrifice, to hang on in faith and rejoice in someone else’s blessing, will be used mightily for his glory.
The hurting generation needs to do one thing in faith: to touch Jesus’ robe. When the woman with issue of blood touched Jesus, he stopped and looked at her. If you release your faith in the midst of your pain, Jesus will look at you and give you a personal message within a message. Be of peace and be filled with the shalom of God. The woman touched the hem – or tassels – of Jesus’ garment. What does this signify?
Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined
When you see the tassels of priestly robes, remember God’s commandments. You must realize how your heart wandered away from him; you must remember His goodness and come back and touch him. He is the One who can heal your wounds.
After the woman was healed, there came bad news from Jairus’ house that his daughter had died. There are often such instances when your desires and dreams seem to be destroyed in the bud, before it comes to fruition. The enemy comes to thieve, steal and destroy. But Jesus comes to give abundant life to your dreams.
Some believers give up at the starting point itself: many have quit too soon. They are destroyed before coming to fullness. They are meant to reach out to nations, but give up within the church itself. Look to Jesus unflinchingly and stay faithful.
In the original Hebrew, it is implied that Jesus and Jairus ran to his house on hearing the news. The Holy Spirit is looking for those who will run with God and his vision.
In the house, there was an air of mourning and tears. But Jesus asked those who were crying to leave. Only Peter, John and James remained. To revive the dying generation, you need to remove or exclude some things.
Isaac and Ishmael live in the same house: Ishmael is your fleshy man and Isaac is your spiritual man. God asked Abraham to cast out Ishmael, or else it will mock your spiritual man. Spend time on your Isaac and give only the bare essentials for your Ishmael. Spend more time and energy and money on your spiritual man.
It is not possible to adjust and bring both Ishmael and Isaac together. The unruly, indisciplined flesh has to be brought under control. If you follow the desires of your Ishmael, you will be wrecked. When you cast out what needs to be, the Holy Spirit will revive those areas and issues that you thought dead. You will see miracles when you cast out Ishmael and live for Isaac.
Jesus knew that the three disciples – Peter, John and James – will stay faithful in all circumstances. Regardless of whether they were scolded or corrected, they stayed close to the Master. Be submitted to spiritual authority in all things, and remain faithful and teachable.
Jesus entered the room and spoke the words “Talitha kumi” to the little girl. This has an interesting translation: “you are in my prayer tent, so rise up” (tal- small; ith- tent). Miracles will happen when you enter your prayer tent. Dead issues will spring to life and flourish. Commit yourself to the Holy Spirit, and God will bless you.
