Even Now
Sunday Service — 6 September 2026
Scripture: John 11:22
|
Message at a Glance Martha stood at a grave that was four days old and still said, EVEN NOW. That is the word for this day. When the deadline has passed, when the doctors have written you off, when every human solution has been exhausted and the people around you have already closed your file — God is not bound by your timeline. He is the God of the unexpected visitation, the last-minute deliverance, and the best wine kept until the end. |
|
Key Scriptures John 11:22 — But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You. 2 Kings 2:14 — “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” Daniel 3:25 — “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire…” Acts 27:20 — …all hope that we would be saved was finally given up. Malachi 3:6 — For I am the Lord, I do not change. Malachi 3:1 — …the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple. Isaiah 62:6–7 — You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent. Luke 5:5 — “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” |
Even Now — The Word for This Day The Holy Spirit has one word written for this day, and it is a short one: even now. Turn to the Gospel of John, chapter eleven, verse twenty-two, and keep 2 Kings 2:14 beside it in your memory.
|
John 11:22 But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You. |
This is a passage you know well. Lazarus fell sick, and his sisters sent for Jesus, because the Lord was their friend — the Master who often visited their home. Their expectation was a simple one: when He arrives He will speak a word, the fever will break, and their brother will be fine. They were expecting something that a paracetamol could handle. But this did not turn out to be a paracetamol matter. It became serious in a way that no tablet and no medicine could touch. Lazarus died.
He died, and he was buried. Among the Sadducees there was a belief that a man who had died might still rise within three days — so for three days a family could hold on to a thread of possibility. By the time Jesus came, even that thread was gone. It was the fourth day.
|
John 11:39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.” |
He did not come at the time they thought he would. Nothing there happened the way they had expected it to. And it is exactly at that point — past the deadline, past the last human possibility, past the point where the stench of death has already settled in — that one of Lazarus’ sisters says the words this whole message hangs on: I know that even now, whatever You ask of God, God will give You.
Keep the other passage beside it. When Elijah was taken up, Elisha stood at the bank of the Jordan with a mantle in his hand and no prophet left beside him, and he asked one question.
|
2 Kings 2:14 Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over. |
That is the same faith wearing different clothes. Where is the God who did it before? He is still here, and He is still able.
Even now — after the deadline, after the diagnosis, after the burial — God still has a word for you.
When People Have Written You Off So what does even now actually mean? It means people have written you off. They have looked at your case and concluded that there is no chance left in it. Your time is up, the deadline has passed, and they have said there is nothing beyond this. They have made it appear as though there is no room left anywhere for hope.
Take the words apart and see how thorough it is. The prevailing situation has been accepted as unchangeable — it is settled that nothing is going to change. Nothing is expected any more. Time has run out. All the solutions are gone. Expectations are gone. It has gone beyond your anticipation and beyond your expectation; it did not happen as you expected, it did not happen as you anticipated, it has run clean past all of that.
But even though it has gone that far: if God’s hand is in your favour, if you are calling on Him in the name of Jesus, then know this day that nothing is impossible for Him.
But get ready — an unexpected visitation is coming. God is visiting you. God’s Word is visiting you. God’s Spirit is visiting you. God’s angel is visiting you. Beyond everything you expected, I am going to do an “even now” for you.
Open your mouth and say it for yourself: an even now miracle is coming into my life. An even now breakthrough is coming into my life. An even now blessing is coming. Then turn to two or three people around you and prophesy it over them — take their hand and say it: are you troubled because the deadline has gone? Are you troubled because hope has gone, because it did not happen at the time you thought it would? God has an even now miracle for you.
And note this one thing carefully. If some things have been delayed, something greater is coming.
My God will never allow the devil to win in your life. He is the Wonderful Counsellor. He is the mighty God. Nothing is impossible for Him.
The Best Is Kept for Last
When the Lord does something at the very end — when He does it late — that is when it turns out to be the best. At the wedding in Cana He turned water into wine, and the people who tasted it did not say it was adequate. They said it was the best.
|
John 2:10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” |
Notice the master of the feast’s own logic. The good wine is what you serve at the beginning; that is the custom, that is what everybody does. But here it came at the end. In the very place where that family expected to be shamed — the wine has run out at our own wedding — they were not shamed at all. What came last was better than anything that had come first.
In the very place where you thought you would be ashamed, God has kept something better.
That is the message the Holy Spirit is giving you. Something good is about to happen. Something good is in store. And the church sang it back to God together — something good is going to happen, something good is in store; we’re together again, just praising the Lord, in one accord — because a promise like that is meant to be sung before it is seen.
He Shows Up in the Fire
For someone reading this, God has a last-minute miracle. Let it be said again: God has a last-minute miracle for those who believe. They had given up on Lazarus. They had already called in the mourners and set the weeping in motion. And then Jesus came.
In Daniel chapter three, three men were thrown into the furnace. But when the king looked in, he counted four.
|
Daniel 3:25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” |
If you are a child of God going through a trial, that is precisely the season in which you will experience the presence of Jesus more than you ever have before. Someone has come down to stand with you inside it, and He is in our midst this day — the One we worship, the One we call upon, the One we preach: our Lord Jesus Christ.
And look at the state the mockers were left in once God moved. They had already come to write that family off; as far as they were concerned the case was closed. Then the Lord walked into their midst, lifted them up, and delivered them.
While people are standing around you to mock you, to shame you, to disgrace you, to tell you that your story is finished and your best years are behind you — in the middle of all that, get ready for an unexpected visitation from the Lord. God has come down for you, and God is going to do a miracle beyond all of it and lift you up.
A Last-Minute Miracle: Peter in Prison In Acts chapter twelve — the passage taken last week — Peter was in prison and the church was praying. Sixteen soldiers were assigned to guard one man. He was bound with chains. Three doors stood between him and the street, and he was held in the inner prison.
|
Acts 12:5 Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was of ered to God for him by the church. |
Now apply that to your own life. When you see the sheer magnitude of the problem coming against you, remember what it is telling you about God’s plan for you. If it took sixteen soldiers, a chain and an inner cell to hold one poor apostle, ask what they were so afraid of. You can measure how great God’s plan for you is by the size of the problem you are facing.
The size of the opposition tells you the size of the plan.
Peter was being kept to be executed the next day. And at the last minute — even now — God sent an angel.
|
Acts 12:7 Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell of his hands. |
This ninth month, this month of September, is a month in which I am bringing people out. Out of some big issues. Out of some big problems. Out of the very situations where you were supposed to be finished, I am miraculously bringing you out. Whatever the enemy’s plan was — to empty, to make dead, to kill — I have broken it. The end of your hope has been reached and you are hanging by a thread, and inside that thread I am descending and working for you. This is a month of mighty deliverances.
So open your mouth and say it: He brought me out. Jesus brought me out. Those who were watching you with envy will watch you come out in the ninth month instead, and you will have a testimony to give for the Lord. Your ministry is not over. Your life is not over.
Pastor commanded victory in the name of Jesus over what has been binding God’s people — over the sickness that has bound them and over the debt alike — and asked that the hand of God be revealed over it, so that out of the middle of it God would miraculously bring them out.
Touch Him One More Time
In Mark chapter five there is a woman who has been bleeding for twelve years.
|
Mark 5:25-26 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suf ered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. |
Count what those twelve years cost her. Physically she was exhausted, worn out. Maritally the family was gone; her husband was gone. Emotionally she was broken. Financially — read the chapter and you will see it — she gave everything she had to the doctors, went through every examination available to her, took every medicine, did everything, and ended at zero. Spiritually she was at zero too: under the Jewish law a woman in her condition could not enter the presence, so for twelve years the place of worship was closed to her as well.
Everything about her said her time was up. But something was still alive inside her, and it was her faith. Say it for yourself: my faith. If I touch the Lord once more. If I spend a little more time with the Lord. If I surrender myself to Him. If I touch Him — even at this last minute — the Lord can do a miracle in my life.
|
Mark 5:27-29 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the af liction. |
So say it this day: what I need is Jesus. And then go and touch Him — in your worship, in your prayer, in your reading of the Word. That is where the hem of His garment is within your reach.
Pastor named the conditions as the Lord dealt with them — issues in the spine, back pain and back problems, with healing moving through them now; sicknesses that doctors had already written off; and a skin infection, an eczema, where nothing has changed after every medicine and every steroid. Jesus is healing it. Those receiving it were asked to clap in the Spirit, to worship in the Holy Spirit, and to let the life of the Holy Spirit spread within them.
You Were Never Meant to Walk Alone We tend to picture Paul as a lone wolf. Tell the person next to you: you can never be a lone wolf in the Kingdom of God. Read Romans chapter sixteen and count the names — eleven women and twenty-one men, companions supporting Paul, standing with him.
The Christian life is not lived alone. It is fellowship. It is together. So stop walking alone. There is a deliverance inside fellowship, and there is a deliverance inside the Church of God. Paul was not a lone wolf, and neither are you.
When All Hope Was Given Up
This same Paul is now on a ship, part of God’s plan to bring His people to Rome. For fourteen days neither the sun nor the moon was visible — only darkness. And then comes the expression in verse twenty.
|
Acts 27:20 Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up. |
Read it slowly. The hope of being saved was finally given up. Not shaken — given up. Every man on board had let go of it. And it was in that night, on that ship, that God’s angel came down and stood beside Paul.
|
Acts 27:23-25 For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me. |
The next day Paul told them to take something to eat, and said it plainly: the God I serve sent an angel and spoke to me. Not only was his own life given back to him — the lives of everyone sailing with him were given as well.
This day that same angel is announcing over you: you will not perish, and those with you will not perish either. If God sent an angel to speak to Paul and to help him there, then this day, for you who stand for God, God’s angels will descend and God will do an “even now” miracle for you.
The God Who Does Not Change
Write this one down and never forget it. Jesus said, I am the Lord who changes not; I am the same yesterday, today and forever. Say it: the Lord does not change.
|
Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. |
|
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. |
Now keep the next word in mind, because it is the whole point. Only God does not change. Do not forget that He is the God who brings change to every other situation and every other condition. Only my Jesus can say, “I am the Lord who changes not.” He is faithful to bring change in any other issue you are carrying. Look at somebody and say it: your change is coming.
God is the one thing that will not change — which is exactly why everything else can.
So when the devil mocks your circumstances, you have an answer, and it is two words. If you think time is up — beyond that. If you think all the solutions are gone — beyond that. Even if nothing happened as you anticipated — beyond that. When he says every road is closed and there is no help for you anywhere, you say it: even now. When you have been through many battles and many failures, and it is said over you that everything is beyond you, you say it: even now. God can intervene in your life. He can intervene in any situation you are going through.
Do Not Keep Silent
Pastor described how he prays in some places: Lord, You must intervene in this — intervene. That is a prayer worth learning, and Isaiah gives you its shape.
|
Isaiah 62:6-7 I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. |
Do not keep silent. Do not be silent. Give Him no rest — not until He establishes, and not until He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. Carry that into your evening prayer. If you pray sincerely, engaging with the Lord, asking Him to enter into this and to work, to work for us, to come down into our situation, and asking that it be made a subject of praise — then He will do it. And He will not stop at the church. He will do it for your family too.
Suddenly
Read Malachi 3:1 alongside that.
|
Malachi 3:1 “Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” Says the Lord of hosts. |
There is the word that answers the prayer: suddenly. He came suddenly to His temple. He came suddenly to Lazarus’ tomb on the fourth day. If you keep reminding the Lord without ceasing, taking hold of the Word and looking into the face of Jesus, calling upon the Father — suddenly. Just like that, your situation turns and the hand of God moves for you.
Your deliverance will come suddenly. Your healing will come suddenly. When it feels humanly limited, He gives divine ability, and suddenly God will turn things around. When you think this is impossible, when you think it will never happen — God will suddenly bring you out. It will land like a shock on your enemies. For those who sat down to mock you, God will suddenly come down and do something for you.
When you reach the end of human ability, God begins with divine ability.
Somebody Pinch Me
The Holy Spirit put a picture inside: someone standing in front of what God has done and saying, somebody pinch me. This is too good. This is God. This breakthrough happened by God. This blessing happened by God. This healing happened by God. This house happened by God. This work happened by God. This ministry happened by God. Somebody pinch me — am I dreaming?
There is such a thing as a prophetic pinch. Get ready to stand amazed at what God has done for you — and give Him a clap offering while you are still amazed.
Toiled All Night, and Then the Word Came One more thing about last-minute, even now moments. In Luke chapter five, Peter says a sentence that many people could say this morning.
|
Luke 5:5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” |
Understand what “all night” meant to them. In the Jewish reckoning, day and night are counted separately, and the night runs from six in the evening until six in the morning — twelve hours. They worked in twelve-hour shifts, day and night. So Peter is saying: twelve full hours of hard labour, and nothing. He had gone bankrupt at his own trade.
And then the Lord got into that boat. God spoke a word, Peter obeyed it — and the man who had just gone bankrupt had to call for partners.
|
Luke 5:6-7 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. |
Even Now — Say It Until It Happens The message ends where it began: at a grave four days old, with a sister who would not stop at the deadline, and with a Lord who answered her.
|
John 11:43-44 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.” |
Even now. Even now. Even now. Say it until the deadline stops frightening you. Say it until your circumstances stop mocking you. Say it until the God who does not change brings the change.
|
Key Takeaways • Even now is a confession, not a feeling. It is what you say after the deadline has passed, after hope is gone, and after people have already written your story off. • God is not late. When the Lord acts at the very end, what He gives is the best — the good wine kept until now. • The magnitude of the opposition tells you the magnitude of the plan. Sixteen soldiers, three doors and a chain measured how much God intended to do through Peter. • You were never meant to walk alone. Paul was no lone wolf, and there is deliverance inside the fellowship of God’s people. • Only God does not change — which is precisely why every other situation can. He is faithful to bring change to anything else you are facing. • Pray until it becomes a praise. Give Him no rest, keep making mention of Him, and expect Him to come suddenly. |
